ABOUT NIKA CAPITAL

Nika strives to impact the future of South Africa through Christian education.

Who we are

Nika strives to impact the future of South Africa through Christian education. Nika is both a conduit and an ignition – an ignition to inspire companies to transform their business focus towards lifelong social impact; and a conduit through which companies can become part of this great work that is at hand in our beautiful country with its valuable people. All this occurs from the basis of genuine generosity.

As for the legal part, Nika is an NPC registered as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO). Nika functions in much the same way as a trust. The businesses who contribute shares in effect enlarge the Nika Capital portfolio. In return, the contributing companies obtain a “black shareholder”, namely Nika Capital, as Nika also qualifies as a Broad Based Black Ownership scheme – indeed a scheme committed to contributing to the betterment of local society through working towards the public good.

Nika’s main focus is education. We believe that Christian education in South Africa is the key in achieving sustainable change in socio-economic inequality and its effects on the future of our country. Nika channels funds, in the form of dividend income, towards this. Consequently, Nika’s beneficiaries are organisations that share this vision – quality Christian education that will not only release leaders of character and excellence into society, but also become the living water in communities, the effects of which will multiply and effect a healthy socio-economic environment. In this way, the kingdom of God can be expanded in South Africa.

Stewardship Principle: Generosity Out Of Gratitude

At Nika, we’re endeavouring to be good and faithful stewards of all God gave us. Finances, intellectual capacities and opportunities – all these gifts were freely granted and entrusted to us by God. Through His grace, vigour and hard work, we’re often blessed with prosperity and abundance. Such blessings were never intended for enrichment and/or empowerment of a selfish/exclusive intent, but rather to share fairly with the community and continually seek and implement ways to change society for the better. Generosity is therefore a cornerstone of our being good stewards, for out of gratitude we follow our heavenly Father’s example and give. In this manner, we’ve often felt the unction to give even when our gifts were seemingly small. But we’ve learnt to continue in faith and hope, giving to God that which we are able to, then trusting Him with the results.

The results have always been above and beyond what we could conceive or imagine – praise be to God!

Social Impact Investment Through Generosity

Companies looking to increase their Social Impact Investment will find a proper value proposition in Nika. By making Nika a shareholder (i.e. the “black shareholder”) of the company, the company receives the opportunity to be part of effecting a sustainable change in education in South Africa. In return, the company will reap the favourable black-ownership-associated-benefits toward achieving its BBBEE strategy – Nika is Broad Based Black Ownership Scheme. Nika’s value proposition is therefore to provide a channel, bridge or conduit for companies to be generous with commercial ownership, out of a desire to impact the future of South Africa through education.

Nika welcomes like-hearted and like-minded investors who feel as strongly as we do about this cause. In fact, the more investors and the greater the concerted effort, the bigger the potential impact. A company who wants to partake, may invest through contributing a certain percentage of shares* through the generosity principle. Indeed, this is the way Nika was founded – a handful of companies
contributed in this manner. Shares can be donated, issued or sold to Nika out of generosity towards Nika’s ongoing work as NPC.

Investors will benefit from Nika’s in-house team of attorneys and corporate advisors who specialises in deal-structuring, helping them to achieve their ownership goals in the best possible structure.

* Kindly note that the company does not automatically become a shareholder of Nika – as a Non-Profit Company, Nika has no shareholders, but rather functions as a shares repository.

Charity & Philanthropy: Striking A Balance

Nika believes in a kind of giving that balances charity and philanthropy – charity being helping the needy, philanthropy addressing the root causes. Therefore, we try to address immediate need/suffering, but also strive address the root causes and enable by creating paths and ways towards opportunity and a better future. Nika is passionate about Christian Education as a means to social change.

Even though the challenges in under-resourced communities in South Africa are tremendous, we don’t respond by deferring responsibility or by feeling overwhelmed, but we appreciate the depth and breadth of the problem, knowing that that which afflicts the poorest and most deprived, afflicts us all and influences our collective future in this country
